Get indexed, get ranked, get traffic
No one can deny that you need traffic to your website in order to succeed online. And the best kind of traffic is free traffic. And where's the best place to get free traffic? Google and other search engines.
How do we get free traffic from Google?
You've experienced this process a lot of times. You visit your favorite search engine. Enter the words you're interested in. And then you visit one or more of the sites that show up. Turns out that the website you visit just got free traffic from the search engine. So the real question is how you get that free traffic.
If you're like most people you only click links on the first page or two. Actually, almost 100% of the free traffic goes to this first page of results. What's even more amazing is the the first 3 links get more than 70% of the free traffic.
This means that to get any real traffic you need to be on the first page in Google. And that means you need to be "ranked" in the top 10 by Google. Which brings up..
What is search engine optimization?
Search Engine Optimization means that Google thinks your site matches what people are typing into their search box. It's a complex formula that only people working for Google know exactly. However, we do know a few things that count.
Getting indexed
Before your website can begin gaining ranking, you have to alert Google to it's existence. This is known as being "indexed." What this means is that Google visits your site and records information about it in their database.
To get indexed, you have to help Google find your site. Getting a link from another site will accomplish this easily. Since some of these site will already be indexed, Google will follow the links on their pages and find you.
A couple of great places to do this are in your Twitter or Facebook profiles. Google visits these sites many times every day. So your new link will get indexed very quickly.
Gaining ranking
After this first hurdle, you need to start gaining ranking. Just getting indexed does you almost no good, considering that Google has billions of pages in their database.
There are three components of gaining ranking:
- Content
- Links
- Activity
Content strategies
This is the SEO work you do on your page. And it means that the content on your page matches the keywords you're targeting. Obviously, the article you're reading now is about search engine optimization. One reason Google knows this is because the words search engine optimization appear inside it. Another reason is because there are related words, like website traffic, too.
The title of the page, the domain name and other pages on your site are also important. Each of these plays a roles in Google determination about your site.
Link juice
The next thing to consider is your links. The links coming in and the links going out are included in this. You want to make sure you have more inbound links than outbound links. So the number of inbound links is important.
Article spinning is a super easy way to get a bunch of inbound links. To accomplish this you start by writing an article that targets the keywords you're after. Then you have to create multiple versions of this articles. And post unique versions to lots of websites that accept articles. And the more you do the better.
Increasing your activity
The last thing we know for sure is that Google likes to see active sites. Static pages that just sit may rank at first, but will fall off over time. Google expects you to be updating your site regularly. One way to keep adding new content it through RSS feeds.
Comments from other people on your page are another fantastic way to keep your content updated. To get comments from others, you need to get others to visit your site. One simple method for doing this is to use forums.
Set up forum profiles with the ones related to your website. Visit often and make posts. And link back to yourself in your signature file. This generates even more links back to your site. And it also gets people to your web page.
Conclusion
Each step listed above is critical. Unfortunately, rewriting your articles again and again. Setting up tons of profiles on forums. And posting your articles and comments takes a lot of time. And you're already too busy, so you mostly likely will never do any of it.
The good news is that there are automated software programs out there that will do this for you. So my best advice is to automate as much of this as you can. This way you'll actually do it. By taking these steps you practically ensure you'll get free traffic from Google.
